Welcome to the Wilhelm Busch Museum online collection!
Items from the collections of the Museum Wilhelm Busch – Deutsches Museum für Karikatur und Zeichenkunst can now be accessed digitally for the first time. All sections of the museum’s collections will gradually be made accessible, starting with the
Ronald Searle Archive, which contains not only the English artist’s graphic work but also his historical collections of cartoons (= Collection ), his library (= Literature )
and his
archive (= Archive ).
The Ronald Searle archive offers comprehensive access to the oeuvre and development of an outstanding artistic personality. Besides his own artistic work – from the “St. Trinian’s” series to reportages such as the 1961 Adolf Eichmann trial in Jerusalem,
to his late cartoons for the French daily, “Le Monde” – Ronald Searle (1920-2011) was engaged throughout his life with the subject of cartoons. He assembled a research library as well as a historical collection of English cartoons from the 18th
and 19th centuries.
One aim of the online collection is to highlight the interlinking of the individual areas of the collection. When you visit individual works, you will therefore find in the bottom right-hand corner a field with links, wherever possible, to other works,
archive material and/or literature.
The number of objects in the online collection is always growing because the data is constantly updated.
Start search
A search on the homepage will start a full-text search across all areas. An advanced search is also possible in the three areas of Collection, Literature and Archive, where you can select, inter alia, by keyword or artist. Keyword searches
are also possible using English terms. Please note that a search for parts of words only works with a wildcard. Further information and tips on searching can be found here.
Although the data on items has all been checked before being put online, you may still come across incomplete records. If you have questions to ask or content-related comments to offer about individual works, please use the Feedback button
on the particular page.
If you require printable image files, you can click on the Order an image button to place an order, for which there will be a charge. Further information about ordering images and the terms of use can be found here.
